Abate Fetel
The most common pears variety on you r tables

In Italy we say: 'don't tell the farmer how much good is cheese eaten with pears'.

The pears this saying talks about are Abate Fetel, and the cheese is the famous Parmiggiano Reggiano, produced in the area where we live and sold in many countries in Europe and U.S., too.

This on the left is an Abate tree taken about a month before harvest time.

And here you see the fruits taken in the same days.
Abate Fetel has the typical 'pear shape'; its pulp is juicy and sweet and it has an important peculiarity: it's resistant to many diseases and parasites wich usually damage other pears varieties

I'm preparing a more deep and complete collection fo pictures and informations about this variety; visit this page again in the future if you're interested to this matter.
